12 Reds Selected for International Duty

Jacob -

There is no rest for the weary as a dozen Liverpool players were selected to represent their countries during the upcoming Window March 20-28th  Reds' captain Jordan Henderson will suit up for the Three Lions as they begin qualifying for the European Championships under manager Gareth Southgate. The Three Lions visit Italy and host Ukraine at Wembley to open qualifying action.

Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk were both selected for a Dutch side that will face France and Gibraltar respectively. In the game vs. France, they will have to contend with Liverpool teammate Ibrahima Konaté. Speaking of France, their second match of the window comes against the Republic of Ireland and goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Andy Robertson is expected to once again captain the Scottish team when they face off with Cyprus and Spain. The final two Reds involved in European qualifying are Diogo Jota for Portugal and Kostas Tsimikas for Greece.

In another competition, it is no surprise that the Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah, will represent his country, Egypt, in the African Cup of Nations qualifying rounds while Naby Keïta will do the same for Guinea.

A pair of young players were also selected to the English U-21 side as Havey Elliott and Curtis Jones are set to gain international experience.

Darwin Núñez was also called up by Uruguay but withdrew due to injury

LFC Globe Verdict

12 selections to International sides during the window shows just how much talent Liverpool have on their roster even in a “down” year. While seeing the veterans like Salah and Henderson selected for duty is nice, I'm most excited for Kostas Tismikas. He has fallen out of the Reds' Starting XI as of late. It will be nice to see him get some time on the pitch.
