Having ended their losing streak in all competitions, Liverpool turn their attention domestically to the EPL. They travel to Brentford in hopes of climbing the table out of 4th place.
Familiar Faces & More
There are four former Liverpool players on the Brentford roster: Caoimhin Kelleher, Jordan Henderson, Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg. I'm sure they will have extra motivation to play well against their former club. The Bees are 13th on the table with 10 points. They are in good form, though, having won 2 of 3 inside Premier League play. Igor Thiago leads Brentford with 5 goals on the season, while Henderson leads the team in assists.
Slot Adresses Salah Situation
The biggest question on everyone's mind is if Salah will be restored to the Starting XI or will he transition to a super sub roll. I'm sure that Arne Slot fully knows the answer to that question, but he did provide some thoughts at his press conference.
“I don't know if it's sharpness (With Salah) or not,” Slot. “It's so difficult for me to say why this is. I could come up with a few reasons, but I am not sure they are the reasons. In general, in football, players miss chances, and Mo is a human being as well. We're not used to him missing chances, let alone a few games in a row, but these things happen. What could have to do with it - and I have no clue if it does - but I could come up with maybe it is easier to maybe finish a chance if you are 3-1 up than if you are 1-0 down, but maybe that is completely not true for him, but could, could, could. The main thing is that Mo has always scored goals for our club. The last thing I worry about is Mo starting to score goals again because that's what he's done his whole life and what I expect him to do in the upcoming weeks and months for our club as well.”
LFC Globe Verdict
All of the attention this week seems to be on Salah, which could be a distraction. Brentford is a team in good form at the moment. Not one moment of Slot's press conference was spent addressing Brentford directly, and while I understand it, that fact is a bit concerning. Igor Thiago is a dangerous customer, and with Kelleher minding the net, you know Brentford will be solid in the back. I think Liverpool will lose another tough one, 2-1
