Liverpool suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat at against as they're on the verge of exiting the .

First Half

It was almost a disastrous start for Liverpool who almost conceded within minutes after Atalanta midfielder Mario Pašalić was gifted a free chance inside the box but was denied by the face of who bravely put in the save.

The Reds struggled to get into the groove on Thursday evening but were bolstered by the energy of who showed an increased motivation on the pitch after several underwhelming performances.

Despite Atalanta's golden chance, Liverpool were the ones who almost went ahead after played in with a sumptuous pass but he lacked conviction in the box and instead dragged his shot horribly wide.

, who started ahead of the resting , did his best impression of the Egyptian King after his sensational shot whacked the crossbar and post in a close chance.

Unfortunately for the side, they were undone by not taking their chances as ex-West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca's shot easily beat Kelleher to put Atalanta ahead at Anfield at the break.

Second Half

was obviously disappointed with the first-half showing from his side due to his triple substitution at the break as he brought on , Mohamed Salah and for , Curtis Jones, and Harvey Elliott.

The changes noticeably made a difference as Liverpool had more confidence on the ball and got close with chances from Núñez and Salah but not enough to dangerously test the Atalanta goalkeeper.

While Reds fans were hoping for an equaliser, the Atalanta side had a different idea in mind as Charles De Ketelaere's pin-point pass found an unmarked Scamacca who confidently bagged home for his second of the night to stun the silent Anfield crowd.

Things went from bad to worse as Mario Pašalić made it three after Kelleher could only parry Scamacca's shot in a truly shocking result at Anfield.

LFC Globe Verdict

Liverpool have made hard work of their Europa League as they go into Bergamo next week needing to be perfect if they want to secure a place in the Europa League semi-finals.

It was one of Liverpool's worst performances of the season and they were rightly punished by Atalanta who took their chances against Klopp's side and set themselves up well for their home tie with Liverpool truly up against it.

Man Of The Match And What's Next?

It's certainly difficult to name a man of the match in what was an embarrassing performance from Liverpool. While I believe no player is deserving of such a title, I believe Cody Gakpo deserves some praise for his improved performance after mass criticism for his earlier showings in recent weeks.

Liverpool next host Crystal Palace in the on Sunday (April 14) at 14:00 PM (UK time).
