Liverpool progressed to the FA Cup fifth round as a team made up of U23 players beat Shrewsbury 1-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Reds named their youngest-ever side as Neil Critchley helped guide an impressive Liverpool performance against League One side Shrewsbury.
Liverpool dominated from the off, with Pedro Chirivella, Jake Cain and Leighton Clarkson putting in commanding displays in the middle of the park.
Neco Williams, who looked a bright prospect in earlier games this season, was hugely influential down Liverpool's right as they had the visitors under the cosh for much of the night.
It was Williams' ball that led to the Reds' winner fifteen minutes from time as the right-back's lofted ball to Harvey Elliott was met by Shrewsbury defender Ro-Shaun Williams, who headed back towards his goalkeeper, only for the ball to loop over him.
The own-goal was enough for Liverpool to progress to the fifth round, with Critchley's side roundly applauded off by all sides of the ground at full-time. The result sets up a highly anticipated fifth-round meeting with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the week commencing Monday March 2.
