Liverpool, who were reduced to ten men following a red card for Andy Robertson, saw out an enthralling 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool dominated the ball but found themselves behind following Harry Kane's early opener, which was later cancelled out by an excellent Diogo Jota header as the two sides entered the break on level terms.
Robertson headed Liverpool into the lead but the Reds' joy was cut short as Heung-min Son equalised for the hosts just minutes later, before Robertson then saw red for a tackle on Emerson Royal with a little less than 15 minutes left on the clock.
Despite Spurs pressing for a winner, the Reds saw out the remainder of the game as they clinched a point to take back to Merseyside. They now sit three points behind league leaders Man City after their victory over Newcastle earlier in the day.
Jurgen Klopp named an entirely new midfield, with Tyler Morton making his first Premier League start alongside James Milner and Naby Keita in midfield. Thiago was sidelined due to a suspected positive COVID-19 test, whilst Jordan Henderson missed out due to an unrelated illness.
Andy Robertson should have given Liverpool the lead inside the opening two minutes as he met Trent Alexander-Arnold's lofted ball into the box, but the Scotsman was unable to direct his unchallenged header towards the goal.
The Reds looked to set the agenda in the opening minutes as they dominated the ball and looked to create an opening, with Alexander-Arnold seeing a powerful left-footed drive from outside the box saved well by Hugo Lloris.
Harry Kane was denied from close range after a last-ditch tackle by Ibrahima Konate, but the Frenchman could do nothing just seconds later as Tanguy Ndombele's pass released the Spurs forward, who made no mistake with a low finish across Alisson to give the hosts the lead against the run of play.
Kane nearly turned goalscorer to provider soon after as he broke at the Reds defence and found an unmarked Heung-min Son inside the box, but the South Korean was unable to finish at full stretch.
Liverpool could have mounted an immediate response through Mane, who was played in on two occasions, but he was unable to control the ball and get a clear strike at goal.
Klopp was furious following a dangerous challenge from Kane on Robertson, with the England striker going over the ball and crashing into the left-back's shin, but referee Paul Tierney's on-field decision of only a yellow card was upheld by VAR.
Spurs continued to look dangerous on the break as Son set up Dele Alli, who arrived into the box and looked favourite to sweep the ball into the back of the net, but Alisson made a crucial save with his fingertips to deny the midfielder and keep the deficit to one goal.
Liverpool dominated the ball and they finally made their breakthrough as Robertson burst into the box and clipped the ball towards Diogo Jota, who brilliantly directed his header into the back of the net to equalise for the Reds.
The Reds could have taken the lead through Alexander-Arnold after the right-back met Mane's lofted ball at the far post and unleashed a powerful strike, but Lloris was up to the task as Alexander-Arnold was denied for a second time in the half.
The Reds looked to make a fast start in the second half as Jota connected with Alexander-Arnold's cross from deep, with his header causing Lloris cause for concern but ultimately going just wide of the far post.
Alisson saved Liverpool's blushes once again as Alli beat the offside trap and squared the ball for a waiting Kane, whose shot was smothered and saved well down to his left by the Reds goalkeeper to keep the score at 1-1.
Kane was a persistent threat all afternoon, despite lacking a clinical finishing touch, with the Spurs forward getting on the end of a deep corner but putting the ball over the crossbar from less than five yards out.
Klopp looked to freshen up his side and regain the momentum as Roberto Firmino made his way onto the pitch to replace Morton. The Reds changed into a 4-2-3-1 formation with Salah and Jota swapping positions, with Firmino playing in the free role between the lines.
Liverpool finally nudged ahead as Salah missed his header at the back post before the ball was palmed out by Lloris but only into the path of Alexander-Arnold, who drilled the ball towards an unmarked Robertson to head the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1.
But an error by Alisson at the edge of the box saw the Brazilian miss his clearance and allow Son through on goal, with the Spurs forward having the straightforward task of rolling the ball into the back of the net to equalise for the hosts.
The Reds then found themselves down to ten men as Robertson saw red for a tackle on Emerson Royal following VAR's intervention, with Liverpool well within their rights to feel aggrieved given Kane's tackle on Robertson in the first half.
Kostas Tsimikas and later Joe Gomez came on for the Reds as they saw out the remainder of the game, with the ten men of Liverpool taking a point back to Anfield after a difficult afternoon in the capital.
