Steven Gerrard spoke to the Scottish media for the first time after being confirmed as the new Rangers manager, leaving Liverpool as under-18 boss.

Rangers confirmed the appointment of Gerrard as their new boss on Friday afternoon, after recent reports linking him with a move away from his boyhood club Liverpool.

The ex-Reds captain will be taking his first job in senior management, but said of his perceived lack of experience: "It's not an issue for me. I can't do anything about not having experience. There's only one way to get it."

Gerrard was astute in his answers and confident, saying he was looking forward to the pressure he will come under, as it's something he's always dealt with.

"I'm looking forward to the schooling. Pressure is not a bad thing for me," he said.

"I've had it since I left school. I know it's going to come. There will be lots of scrutiny – but that's what I love. Bring it on!"

Gerrard, who has named Gary McAllister as his assistant at his new club, says the 53-year-old's experience will prove to be big help around the club.

“He'll be a big rock for me. He was very excited when I spoke to him. He has experience of managing," Gerrard said.

"The way he carries himself. I couldn't have asked anyone better to help me. He treats people well.”
