Does Darwin Núñez Have A Future At Liverpool?

Fasika -

If I wrote this before Liverpool's thrilling 2-1 win over Newcastle over the weekend, the answer to this article may have had a very different answer.

Despite beginning the season on the substitutes bench, well and truly introduced himself once again to the Liverpool faithful with a stunning brace to claim three points for a 10-man Liverpool at St James' Park.

The biggest indictment of the 24-year-old's game was his poor finishing, a skill it seems he worked extremely hard over the summer to prove.

Núñez shut up a lot of critics with his heroics against Newcastle as the question remains, Does the Uruguayan striker have a future at Liverpool?

He Should Be The Starting Striker

Núñez certainly deserves to lead the line for Liverpool in their next game against Aston Villa on September 3rd, given how explosive his impact was on the side in the 15 minutes he played against Newcastle this past Sunday.

He's warranted that opportunity over the likes of and who are his main competition for that covered striker spot in the Liverpool attack.

Out of the three, Núñez is the most natural number nine and is the only one with the experience of solely leading the line for a club, having performed those duties for Benfica in the Primeira Liga and UEFA .

His immense movement is akin to his countryman, Edinson Cavani, and consistently causes trouble for the defenders that have to come up against him.

This is only his second season at the club and at just 24 years old, we're only starting to see the beginning of his journey at Liverpool where he has the tools to become a special player for the Reds.

He's Best As A Super Sub

While some may say his cameo from the bench against Newcastle has earned him the opportunity to start for Liverpool, others have suggested that the role of coming on as a super sub is best suited to his game.

Núñez causes havoc whenever he's on the pitch and coming on with 20 minutes to go against a tired defence with his pace and constant movement is a dangerous situation to be in when you're the opposition.

The likes of Cody Gakpo are more suited to play the number nine role due to his ability to drop deep and link play with the midfield while Núñez is a classic striker who plays on the shoulder of defenders.

Regardless of his role, I believe the future is bright for Darwin Núñez at Liverpool and we're just witnessing a smidgen of what he can do in the red shirt.
