Liverpool stormed to a 5-0 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League thanks to a hat-trick from Diogo Jota on Tuesday night.

The Serie A side were billed as a tricky test for the Reds, with their attacking capabilities widely-lauded ahead of the meeting.

But Jurgen Klopp's side brushed off the challenge with ease as they put in an excellent display with outstanding attacking vigour.

Jota put the Reds ahead inside the opening 20 minutes with a deft chipped finish before he smashed the ball home after the hour mark to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead at the break.

The Premier League champions turned it on for the start of the second half with three goals inside ten minutes. Mohamed Salah made it three with a curling finish into the far post before Sadio Mane added another after the Egyptian found him inside the box.

Jota capped off the goalscoring in the 55th minute as he netted an impressive hat-trick by going around the goalkeeper and rolling the ball into the back of the net.

It was an impeccable night for the Reds, who kept a clean sheet at the back with Rhys Williams, despite the hosts having a few chances themselves.

The result means Liverpool have a five-point lead at the top of Group D as they head into the final three group-stage fixtures.
