Jürgen Klopp’s Pre-Match Press Conference: Liverpool vs Brentford

12th November 2023

Liverpool manager spoke to the media ahead of their return to when they take on on Sunday, November 12th at 14:00 PM (UK time).

It's a welcome return to duty for Jürgen Klopp's men who suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss to Toulouse in the Europa League.

The German boss was noticeably angered with the effort put forth by his players in the defeat and displayed it during his post-match press conference when he stated that you have no chance of winning a football match when you don't make any defensive challenges.

During the press conference, he decided to focus on his side's inability to convert their chances from counter-attacks in their 1-1 with last week.

“Counter-press is an impulse in the first moment and then the last step is the most important,” Klopp said. “If you are there you have to block the ball.

“We had situations where we were with three players against one but the one Luton player could get out. That just shows that the last per cent of conviction on that night was not there.

“I don't know why it was not there, I can't just say. It was not there. We will change that – definitely. That's very important for the way we want to play.”

Liverpool will be without who will serve a one-game suspension against Brentford as Klopp opened up about how Wataru Endō has settled in since arriving at Liverpool in the summer from Stuttgart.

“Wataru makes steps every day and that's important,” Klopp insisted. “We had stories like this in the past. This year it looks a little bit different, that players maybe fit in a bit quicker, but we had stories: didn't play for half a year, nobody can remember it anymore but it was like that.

“Other players as well had their struggles in the beginning. That's all fine. He didn't even struggle, we played pretty good, successful and he is super-important for us.”

With and missing out in midweek due to injury, it may be a new-look midfield for Liverpool on Sunday - one that could include vice-captain Trent Alexander Arnold.

Klopp spoke about the potential of the England moving further up the pitch for Sunday's clash. “Yeah, a possibility [to play in midfield], it depends on the situation, the opponent, on a lot of things,” he admitted. “We know that he can play there.”

“For us, if we just put him there then we lose one of the best right-backs in the world, so we should not forget that completely at least. Of course, he is an option for that position.”
