Liverpool went three points ahead at the summit of the Premier League table with an emphatic victory over Cardiff City, with Man City yet to play at Tottenham on Monday night.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool within the first ten minutes as the Reds looked dominant in possession during the first-half.
Whilst chances were hard to come by in the first half, the Reds doubled the lead after the hour mark when Sadio Mane's powerful finish hit the back of the net.
Callum Peterson tapped in a low cross from the left as Jurgen Klopp's side saw their advantage halved minutes later.
However, substitute Xherdan Shaqiri scored his first in a Reds shirt and restored Liverpool's three goal lead with five minutes to go.
Mane then added the finishing touch to Liverpool's victory late on, with his delicate finish securing a 4-1 win for Liverpool.
First half...
Salah breached Cardiff's defence with just ten minutes on the clock as the Egyptian converted from close-range after two quick-fire deflected shots.
Virgil van Dijk came closest to giving the Reds' a second with his header hitting the post, before Salah failed to capitalise on a one-on-one.
Liverpool's goalscorer soon had an unsuccessful penalty appeal when he looked to have been pulled back from behind, however referee Stuart Attwell waived play on.
Cardiff saw little off the ball in the early exchanges, with Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum impressively operating at the base of midfield to thwart any danger to the Reds back-line.
Adam Lallana had a header cleared off the line as the first-half came to a close, with Klopp's side perhaps somewhat aggrieved to not be leading by more goals.
Second half...
Cardiff appeared to be slightly rejuvenated after the break and came close to scoring an equaliser with Sean Morrison's header ruled out for offside.
Liverpool looked in need a creative spark as the half wore on and Klopp duly obliged. Shaqiri replaced Lallana in attacking midfield as the Reds upped the tempo.
The opportunity for a second finally fell to Mane who, after a poor touch, fired home a powerful shot with his left foot at the Kop end.
Cardiff were soon back in it when Junior Hoilett's low cross was met by Paterson, who managed to squeeze the ball past Alisson as the Reds conceded their first league goal at Anfield in over 15 hours of football.
However, Shaqiri scored his first goal for the club after good work from Salah, who was ever-present in Liverpool's attacking play all game.
With just minutes to go, Salah got his second assist of the game with a clever pass for Mane, who clipped over Etheridge to secure all three points.
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Lallana (Shaqiri 61′); Salah, Mane, Firmino (Milner 71′).
