Two European powers clash on November 4th. Liverpool will meet at Anfield, and Liverpool will do battle with Real Madrid for a marquee matchup in the Champions League.
Trent Returns
There is a lot to unpack here, so let's get started. Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to Anfield for the first time as a visiting player. Emotions would be high even if this were just a regular EPL match, but considering that Trent is a Liverpool native and made so many contributions to the club over the years, including the EPL Title last year, and oh boy, this has the makings of being a special European night at Anfield.
For his part, Trent says he will always love Livererpool.
“I'll always love the club, I'll always be a fan of the club,” he said. “ I'll always be thankful for the opportunities and the things that we achieved together... they'll live with me forever. No matter what, my feelings won't change towards Liverpool. I've got memories there that will last me a lifetime.”
Let's Get Real
Real Madrid has plenty of other players for Liverpool to worry about, starting with one of the world's best players in Kylian Mbappé. He already has 11 goals in 13 matches. The Reds will also have to contend with Vinícius Júnior and several other household names across world football. Liverpool has several household names too, like Salah and van Dijk. That's what makes this matchup so intriguing.
Facts & Figures
Liverpool have struggled with Real Madrid in the past, winning only four times out of 13 tries. One of those was a 2-0 win last season at Anfield, thanks to goals from Alexis MacAllister and Cody Gakpo. The Reds are two goals short of scoring 500 goals in the Champions League and its predecessor, the European Cup. Liverpool and Real Madrid are the only pair of teams to face each other in three different Champions League Finals.
LFC Globe Verdict
If you can't already tell, I am excited for this one. I got to see Trent and Real Madrid play in Charlotte earlier this year at the Club World Cup, so I know the Reds will have their hands full. It's not often Liverpool are underdogs at Anfield, but they will be in this match. I, too, think the Reds just don't have the offensive firepower or the defensive strength to keep up with Real Madrid, losing 3-1.
Where To Watch
The match is set for 20:00 GMT at Anfield. It can be seen on Amazon Prime Video in both the UK and the United States. In the USA, kickoff is set for 3 p.m. EST.
