After playing one of their best games of the season against Real Madrid, Liverpool looks to continue their recent good form against Manchester City at the Etihad on November 9th. Liverpool and City are separated by just one point on the table, so this match will go a long way to determining whether the Reds have stabilised their season, pushing toward the top spot in the EPL, or fall back toward the middle.
One Man Show
Manchester City appears to be a one-man show so far this season, but what a show that is. Erling Haaland is putting up video game numbers with 13 goals in just 10 games, but no one else has more than a single goal so far. It goes without saying that the Reds' defence will be a huge key to the match. They were certainly up to the challenge with the clean sheet vs Real Madrid and will have to be similarly locked in this match to get a result.
Szoboszlai Shines
Even when Liverpool was in bad form, Dominik Szoboszlai continued to play well. Arne Slot agrees.
"I think he's been outstanding throughout the whole season but these two games brought even more out of the team and out of him,” Slot said. For me, for obvious reasons; but it's maybe smarter not to say those reasons because I don't want to say the same things over and over again, and you probably know what I mean without me saying it? I think Dom has a lot, a lot, a lot of qualities but one of them is also his work without the ball. And his work without the ball was... I like his work without the ball every single game and in the last two games that was probably even above his own standards."
Injury Update
There are no fresh injuries for the Reds, and Alisson is expected to return on November 22nd after the international break vs. Nottingham Forest. Jeremie Frimpong is also aiming to return for that match, but Alexander Isak could take a bit longer as he just started training with the club on November 7.
LFC Globe Verdict
Liverpool does not have time to catch their breath as Manchester City is another tough opponent, especially on its home pitch. The key is to slow down Haaland; you can't fully stop him. I have faith that Liverpool can do just that and come away with another huge win, 2-1.
Where To Watch
The match is set for 16:30 GMT and will air on Sky Sports. In the United States, fans can watch on the USA Network at 11:30 AM EST.
