Liverpool continue their push toward the top of the table when they travel to Crystal Palace on December 9th. Alisson is expected to get the start, but the Reds will have to find a replacement for JJoel Matip who is out with an ACL injury.
Quotable Klopp
Jürgen Klopp met with the media and stressed the importance of getting all 3 points vs. the Eagles.
“We have a job to do and that's against Crystal Palace. Let's be 100 per cent focused on that, what we are and what we will be. Then Sunday, I have no clue who plays on Sunday but then I will lie at home on the sofa in the afternoon and watch the other football games and will see what they do – more out of interest if we play them still and that's it. But nobody became champion because he was top of the table on Saturday at 2.15 pm, or whatever, on matchday 16. That doesn't really help. But we need the points and we want to go for them, and that's what we prepare for in this short space of time.”
Struggling To Take Flight
Crystal Palace have struggled so far this season. They sit 14th on the table with 4 wins, 4 draws and 7 losses. The last time they won an EPL match was November 4th. Striker Odsonne Edouard leads the way for the Eagles with 7 goals, so he could pose some danger, but Liverpool have been in good form against Palace as of late, garnering 14 straight results, with the last loss coming in 2017.
Salah Still Short Of 200
Mohamed Salah is still stuck on 199 goals for his Liverpool career and he could very well get the goal vs. Crystal Palace. He has also recently been named as one of three finalists for African Player of the Year. But Klopp says it's more than the milestones that make Salah the player he is.
“Mo's a sensationally thoughtful person and he's a really smart man," Klopp told TNT Sports. "When we're together in the leadership group, his impact is massive and he sees all the aspects of the game and the team and it's a real joy to have him there to be honest.”
LFC Globe Verdict
Liverpool could sit at the top of the table, at least for a few hours, should they win at Crystal Palace. Klopp is right in so far as that it won't mean that much because championships are not decided in December. But symbolically, it will mean a lot to the fans to see Liverpool atop the EPL mountain after the struggles of last season. Palace have struggled this year and while the Reds will have to make adjustments without Matip in the lineup for the rest of the season, they win this one going away 3-0.
