Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season as Manchester City narrowed the gap at the top to four points.

The Reds led the reigning champions by seven points heading in to the fixture, but a 2-1 defeat following goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane saw them relinquish the chance to extend that gap.

Despite an equalising goal from Roberto Firmino just after the hour mark, the Reds went on to concede to Sane's slotted finish past goalkeeper Alisson.

It is the first time this season the Reds have been defeated, having put together a nine-game winning run over the last five weeks.

Pep Guardiola's side move past Tottenham Hotspur in the table, sitting on 50 points - four behind Jurgen Klopp's side.

Whilst the result is disappointing to take, Liverpool are still in a healthy position at the start of the second half of the season.
