Liverpool defender Rhys Williams has joined Scottish side Aberdeen on a season-long loan the club announced yesterday, on June 28th. Williams moved up Liverpool's Acadamy ranks before seeing the pitch on 19 occasions (not including preseason fixtures), for the senior side, all coming in the 2020-21 season. Williams previously spent time on loan with Blackpool and Swansea.
Williams will not be the only player with ties to Liverpool suiting up for Aberdeen during the new season as he joins Leighton Clarkson, who completed a permanent transfer to Aberdeen on June 15th.
“I'm really pleased to be here,' Williams said during his introductory press conference in Scotland. “When I knew there was an opportunity to come to Aberdeen on loan I spoke to Leighton and he couldn't speak highly enough about his experience.”
Aberdeen finished 3rd in the Scottish Premiership last season, earning a Europa League spot. As a result, they could face the Reds at some point during that competition. The 22-year-old Williams is eligible to rejoin Liverpool on May 31st, 2024.
