While Mohamed Salah still ranks as one of Liverpool's best and most influential players, he has suffered a dip in form this season, especially in the Premier League, netting just 11 times in 25 games.
While he's on fire in the Champions League, scoring eight times in seven games, with his goal in the 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid making him Liverpool's leading top scorer in European competitions, fears whether he can reignite his previous form has started to take hold.
Turning 31 in June, conversations must be had at Liverpool on the succession plan for Salah and how Liverpool plan to replace a player who has been one of the world's best for the past six years.
I believe the club must focus on targeting three players to replace the Egyptian: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Federico Chiesa, and Moussa Diaby.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
The winger has burst onto the scene this season, becoming one of the most exciting wingers in world football at Napoli.
In his first season at the club, Kvaratskhelia has formed a deadly partnership with Victor Osimhen as Napoli is storming the Serie A, possessing a whopping 15-point lead over second-placed Inter Milan.
The Georgian international has netted 10 times and assisted 11 goals in just 19 league games, demonstrating his goal-scoring and creating abilities, akin to Salah.
While he plays off the left as a right-footed winger, Kvaratskhelia is extremely comfortable on his left foot so playing on the right – where Salah is situated- isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Federico Chiesa
A right-winger by trade, the name Federico Chiesa was on the lips of most Liverpool fans after his impressive showing at Euro 2020 which resulted in him and Italy winning the tournament.
A pacy individual with a hard-working ethic, Chiesa is the prototypical Liverpool winger, similar in stature to the likes of Salah, Sadio Mané and Diogo Jota.
He's also able to play on the left, where he's able to cut in on his stronger right foot and while his goalscoring exploits are not to the level of the Egyptian, at 25 years old, Chiesa can still improve in certain areas and under the stewardship of Jürgen Klopp, the pair could be a special pairing.
Moussa Diaby
In what would be the biggest gamble of the three options, Moussa Diaby would certainly be an interesting proposition for Liverpool.
Diaby typically plies his trade as a left-winger and has come on leaps and bounds since last season, as he scored a career-high 13 league goals for Bayer Leverkusen, with 17 in all competitions.
Playing under Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso at the Bundesliga club, Diaby has already hit 10 goals in all competitions this season as the 23-year-old looks to take another step forward in his career.
While Salah remains productive, Liverpool must be proactive in the transfer market to ensure a smooth transition when the time comes for the Egyptian King to make way.
