A happy Jürgen Klopp met with the media after Liverpool dominated Leeds United 6-1. The boss said he was pleased with multiple aspects of the match, the play of Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold, while discussing how to build momentum from the win.
Picking A Favourite
Win or lose, Klopp always seems to highlight at least one positive moment from each match in his press conferences. He had plenty of positives to pick from in this match.
“I don't know. [What] pleased me most,” he said. “Being calm, prepared with little passes, preparing direction in a really good way. At least three goals we scored [came] after counter-press, which is obviously massively helpful. Then we were calm in the decisive moments to pass exceptional balls. I think Mo's (Mohamed Salah) second goal was super play. A lot of good moments.”
Jota & Alexander Arnold Stand Out
Diogo Jota scored his first two goals of the campaign while Trent Alexander-Arnold was a catalyst in starting the offence all match long and Klopp piled praise on both players.
“Diogo was involved in a lot of top, top moments, won the ball back and set up Mo's first,” Klopp said. “Still, you can see there is space for improvement and he has some moments where you can see the rhythm maybe [is] not 100 percent. (Alexander-Arnold) he won the ball back for the first goal from that position as well, stepping really out there - it was good. Yeah, impressive.”
Building Momentum
Liverpool is now unbeaten in their last 3 matches and Klopp offered his thoughts on how the club can keep things moving in the right direction as the season enters its latter stages.
“I think we agree it could have gone either way, we are two-nil down early,” Klopp said. “Arsenal is flying, and they score the third or fourth and you have a real problem. But we reacted well and got a point, which we deserved at least, I would say. And tonight now [it's] super-important that we really understand what we got here, we play a really bad season, but some things are not really to explain, some things are definitely to explain and not acceptable. But now when we put in good performances we can understand what's possible. That's really, really important for me and that's why I don't think [about] where we can push to, or whatever. I just want us to play top football and play and win games. Then we will see where we end up.”
LFC Globe Verdict
I really like what Jürgen Klopp had to say in his press conference, particularly his answer to the last question about the rest of the season. When the team plays well, you can see their potential. The club is going to continue to fight for every point the rest of this season, but he also is stating to look to next season as well and it could be a very exciting one for Reds' supporters.
