With just three days to go until the January transfer window closes on February 1st, there will no doubt be clubs scouting the market to see whether they could make last-minute additions that could bolster a top-four or title charge.

Conversations on whether Liverpool should be one of those teams have been going on since the end of the summer transfer window, despite bringing in four midfielders, the Merseyside club elected against bringing in a world-class replacement for Fabinho, who left the club to join Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League.

Jürgen Klopp decided to bring in Wataru Endō from Stuttgart as his only defensive midfield signing, leaving the club short in that position. While Liverpool have made a stellar start to the 2023/24 campaign, they've endured several injuries in midfield with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai all missing a portion of time.

Liverpool must decide whether they need to bulk up that position in the last few days of January to continue their charge for the Premier League title.

André Should Be Targeted

Liverpool were linked with a whole host of defensive midfielders during the summer including Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia who both decided to join Chelsea, leaving Liverpool in quite the conundrum.

André was one of the reported targets for the club who apparently kept tabs on the Brazilian midfielder during the Copa Libertadores as he played for boyhood club Fluminense. The 22-year-old is a natural number six with abundant physicality, aggression and a knack for tackling.

He would have reportedly cost around £ 20 million, which is what Liverpool paid for Endo and it seemed like quite the straightforward signing but didn't materialise for whatever reason.

Trust in Ryan Gravenberch 

Liverpool made a deadline-day move for Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich for £34million with many stunned that the German side would let him go considering the potential he possesses despite a difficult debut season with the club.

While there's no doubt about the quality of the Dutchman, fans contemplated where he would play given the prior signings of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

The 21-year-old was used as a left central midfielder for the Bundesliga champions but according to reports, Klopp sees Gravenberch as a hybrid between the six and eight positions which would make sense for the signing.

While Gravenberch has exclusively played as a number eight in his appearances so far this season, he's still settling into the squad and future games as a holding midfielder could be on its way while he continues to get used to the Liverpool style of football.

Gravenberch has put in improved performances as of late, even netting a goal in Liverpool's 5-2 win against Norwich City in the FA Cup.

While a holding midfielder may be a target for the summer instead, Liverpool will remain in good stead regardless of any addition this month.
