Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp fielded the side that lost against Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend, with Divock Origi retaining his place alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in attack.
The Anfield crowd were in the mood from the off as Klopp and his players were treated to a special rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone ahead of the kick-off of the new season.
The game started with an end-to-end feel as Norwich looked to get at the Reds back-line and Trent Alexander-Arnold in particular.
Liverpool also looked to attack down the left as Origi and full-back Andy Robertson found themselves with acres of space to operate in down the wing.
They got their reward in the seventh minute as Origi broke down the left and delivered a low cross into the box, where Grant Hanley's misjudged swipe saw the ball ricochet off his toe and into the back of the net.
Norwich responded well and looked threatening on the break as Marco Stiepermann and striker Teemu Pukki combined twice, however, the Reds back-line held their nerve to keep them out.
Klopp's side continued to have plenty of joy going forward and it didn't take too long for the hosts to double their advantage.
Salah attempted to break past the Norwich defenders in the box as the ball fell to Firmino. The Brazilian prodded it back to him as Salah expertly found the bottom corner across goalkeeper Tim Krul to make it 2-0.
Norwich looked threatening in bursts as they looked to get one back via Emi Buendia and then Stiepermann, both who drew saves out of Alisson.
The Reds made it 3-0 not long after as Virgil van Dijk connected with a corner from Salah and nodded home past Krul with a very straightforward header.
There was sudden cause for concern for Liverpool as Alisson went down holding his calf after a slip. The Brazilian hobbled off in pain as Adrian came on to rousing applause to make his Reds debut, four days after signing for the club.
With a little under three minutes to go until half-time, Origi got his name on the scoresheet as he headed into the back of the net from an excellent lofted ball by Alexander-Arnold to make it 4-0 to the Reds as they went into the break.
The second-half started much the same as Jordan Henderson and then Firmino came close in quick succession to giving Liverpool a fifth, however, the duo both failed to convert when it looked easier to score.
Norwich improved as the half wore on and got their reward in the 64th minute via the always-threatening Pukki.
Buendia found Pukki with an excellent pass, with the striker collecting the ball and slotting into the bottom corner past Adrian with a wonderful finish.
Norwich looked intent on showing their attacking talents despite looking set for defeat, with the Reds defence appearing open and shaky on numerous occasions.
Alexander-Arnold came close to giving Liverpool a fifth with a thunderous free-kick in the closing stages, however, Krul was up to the task to keep the youngster out and keep the scores at 4-1.
It was a successful start to the season for Klopp's side, who are next in action on Wednesday as they face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup final in Istanbul.
