Liverpool travel to the Etihad on Sunday afternoon as they look to extend the gap between themselves and Pep Guardiola's side to eight points early on in the season.

The Reds have endured somewhat of a shaky start to the campaign, but with five wins in their last five in all competitions - the latest a 5-0 away win in the Champions League, confidence shouldn't be a problem within the ranks.

While Man City have dropped more points than they would have liked so far this term, their record shows they still remain difficult to beat, with the hosts unbeaten in all competitions since September.

The two sides met at the Etihad at the back end of last season, with the newly-crowned Premier League champions on the end of a disappointing 4-0 defeat. It was a day where the Reds' focus wasn't quite there and there's no doubt they'll be seeking redemption.

In truth, anything but a defeat is a welcome result for Liverpool, but dispatching last year's closest title rivals would be a big statement to make heading into the November international break. It's set to be an enthralling 90 minutes of action up the M62.

Liverpool remain without Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho, in addition to the long-term injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Virgil van Dijk.

Joel Matip and Naby Keita are in contention after returning in midweek, with it likely Matip returns to the defence to partner Joe Gomez. Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Philips are the other deputies.

The big uncertainty lies in attack, with Diogo Jota netting a European hattrick in midweek after replacing Roberto Firmino. The Portuguese forward deserves a start given his rich vein of form, but it's also hard to envisage Klopp resting Firmino for a game against a title rival. A switch in formation could be a possibility.
