Mohamed Salah converted a penalty kick in the final minute of stoppage time as Liverpool took all three points from a determined side 1-0 at Turf Moor. The victory gives the Reds four wins in four tries within EPL play, and it is also Burnley's first at in 25 matches, as they were unbeaten at Turf Moor all of last year.

First Half

Burnley started the match in a low block, but the Clarets had the first shot from Jaidon Anthony, but it was high. Liverpool earned a trio of corners inside the first 15 minutes, but they could not score. The match continued similarly as Liverpool continued to try to break the Burnley defence, but they could not solve the defence.

Liverpool had a pair of shots blocked around the half-hour mark, but both were blocked. Another corner came in the 35th minute, but the cross was claimed by the goalie. Andy Robertson forced a save just after coming on in the 40th minute. That's the only shot the Reds put on frame as the score stayed at 0-0 at the break.

Second Half

Liverpool earned a pair of corners in the opening stages of the second half, but they could not convert. The Reds continued to look lively as Florian Wirtz put a shot just wide in the 55th minute. The shots kept coming in rapid succession, with Dominik Szoboszlai forcing a save.

The shots continued for Liverpool, but with Burnley playing all 11 men behind the ball, the Reds could put none on goal as they were either blocked or wide of the mark. Lesley Ugochukwu was shown a second yellow card in the 84th minute. Even so, Liverpool could not find the back of the net until the final moment of stoppage time.

Jeremie Frimpong caused a handball in the box by Hannibal Mejbri with a dangerous ball, and Salah calmly converted the resulting penalty as Liverpool took all three points with the 1-0 .

They Did It Again

According to Opta Stats, Liverpool are the first team in EPL history to open the season with four straight game-winners, all coming in the 80th minute or later. Salah spoke to Sky Sports about the resiliency of the club.

“The players are adapting to our system,” he said. “We had a few new players in the starting line-up. It takes time to adapt their game to our game. We try to make them comfortable in a game. Alex [Isak] also came last week, and he's going to be in the team. We try to find the balance. We don't give up. We just try to push ourselves and our team to the limit."

Salah's Stats & More

The Egyptian King has now scored 188 goals, passing Andrew Cole for fourth place on the all-time list. Liverpool outshot Burnley 27-3 in the match, but only managed to put four of them on goal. Burnley had no shots. Liverpool held over 81 per cent possession and 13 corner kicks to Burnley's 1.

What Does Slot Say?

Arne Slot also shared his thoughts with the media after the match.

"Compliments to Burnley, how they played today — maybe not how they played but how they defended. It was difficult to find a gap,” he said.  “We were a few times close. If we would've scored, maybe it would've opened up, but we didn't, and because of tha,t we had to work. We were getting closer and closer and closer, and in the final stages, we got what we were hoping for. If you play 95 minutes in their 18-yard box, then there is a chance that the ball will eventually fall in the right way for you, but it was difficult because they had 11 players there. We needed a little bit of luck or a moment of magic. We had the moment of luck where the arm went to the ball, and fortunately, it was inside the box."

LFC Globe Verdict

I feel like I have typed this for every EPL game so far in 2025, but somehow Liverpool found a way to win again. Many pundits are saying that the Reds are lucky and they don't look sharp. I prefer to say they showed the heart of champions. I do feel bad for Burnley and manager Scott Parker, who executed their game plan perfectly, but the Reds proved to be too much in the end.

Man Of The Match

It would be easy to go with Salah, but honestly, he was quiet for the majority of the match. I will give it instead to substitutes and , as the energy level for the Reds picked up as soon as they stepped on the pitch.
