Coming off of a big win vs. Everton, Liverpool travel to Newcastle for what Jürgen Klopp calls a “Massive” game. Liverpool defeated the Magpies 2-1 deep in stoppage time back in August at Anfield, so they are looking for the sweep.
Let's Talk About The Magpies
Newcastle has had a strong season thus far. They sit 4th on the Table with 41 points and they are unbeaten in their last 5 matches (1 win and 4 draws.). In fact, Newcastle has the fewest losses in the EPL with just 1 (the match at Anfield) and garnered a league-best 11 draws, putting the Magpies squarely in contention for a spot in the Champions League at season's end.
Newcastle is also a dangerous offensive team with 41 goals in 22 games and they are aggressive, drawing 47 yellow cards so far this season.
Injury News
Unfortunately, Calvin Ramsay has been ruled out due to injury for the rest of the year after recently undergoing surgery. The Scottish teen only made two appearances for the Reds this season.
“Obviously missing the rest of the season is serious, but with Calvin is really special,” Klopp said.
Virgil van Dijk is expected to start vs Newcastle after being an unused substitute vs Everton. Luis Diaz, Thiago, and Ibrahima Konate have been ruled out.
Bajcetic Blooming For Reds
Stefan Bajcetic was recently named Liverpool's Player of the Month and with good reason. He has made quite an impression on the coaching staff, players, and supporters alike in just 13 career first-team games with Liverpool. Bajcetic briefly spoke to the media about the Newcastle match, admitting that it will be a tough test for the Reds.
“We're looking ahead to win more games,” We know it's going to be tough in St. James' Park, but obviously we are Liverpool, so our aim is to win all the games. Hopefully, we can do it.”
LFC Globe Verdict
Newcastle may be the toughest test Liverpool face all year. Not only will the Magpies be looking to avenge their only loss of the year, but a win gives them an even tighter grip on one of the top spots in the Table. It's been a reversal of fortunes as Liverpool expected to be where the Magpies are currently.
That's why this match feels big because getting all six points against Newcastle will not only move Liverpool up the table but will also prove they can win away from Anfield which has been a struggle all year.
Where To Watch
