Newcastle vs Liverpool - Liverpool Face Tough Newcastle Side Amid Isak Drama

Liverpool will make their first road trip of the season as they travel to St. James' Park to face Newcastle United. It could be a surreal match as Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has been heavily linked to the Reds in transfer rumours, as his relationship with his current club has soured.

Noteworthy Start for Newcastle Amid Drama

Newcastle got off to a solid start last week as they battled Aston Villa to a on the road, so the Isak drama did not seem to affect the club. Even though Isak has publicly said that he has lost faith in the club, “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now -- and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself”.

Newcastle have rebutted those claims, but manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Isak will not feature for Newcastle vs. Liverpool. This is a tough blow for the Magpies as Isak scored 23 goals last season.

What Does Slot Say?

Even with Newcastle missing one of their most important offensive weapons, Arne Slot says the Magpies will still present a tough challenge.

“We played them three times last season, and twice their intensity levels were above ours. In the game, especially in the first 60 minutes, they were so, so, so intense and fully deserved to have the lead. In the League Cup final, they were more intense than us as well. So, I don't think they need anything to add for them to be intense if they play at St. James' Park. Apart from the intensity, it's a very good team, they have also a team that can make it a fight if you want to call it like this, they have players for this, but they also have players that are so comfortable on the ball. So, one of the best teams in the league and one of the most difficult away games you can have in the season, especially as you say here, 'under the lights".

Injury Update

Ryan Gravenberch will be back from a red card suspension, and is coming off an injury. However, Jeremie Frimpong is expected to miss extended time with a hamstring injury, and he is not expected to be back on the pitch until after the break (September 9th).

LFC Globe Verdict

Liverpool and Newcastle played 3 very entertaining games last year, as each team earned a , a and a draw. Newcastle did keep Liverpool from defending their Carabao Cup title. Winning at Saint James' Park will not be easy and will be a strong early-season test for the Reds. If they can pass, I think the sky's the limit for this team.
