Liverpool have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner; however, they will need to act swiftly to secure his signature.

The Reds have been linked with the German forward for the past year, with reports on Wednesday reiterating Jurgen Klopp's interest in his services.

As with most RB Leipzig players, the 23-year-old has a release clause in his contract, believed to be between £45 million and £50 million.

The clause is dependant on Leipzig's final position in the Bundesliga table at the end of the season, with Julian Nagelsmann's side currently in the reckoning for the title, sitting a point behind leaders Bayern Munich.

However, should Liverpool decide to pursue Werner this summer, they will need to conclude a deal before the end of the season - in April - when the release clause expires.

That is according to reliable Bild journalist Christian Falk, who reported on the Reds' interest earlier this week.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool make a move for the highly-rated striker, who has scored 20 goals and notched six assists in 21 league appearances this term.

Liverpool have also been linked with Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho in a deal upwards of £100 million, with conflicting reports on whether who the Reds prefer in the summer.

The Mail's Dominic King reported on Wednesday that Liverpool have made clear their interest in Sancho, although fellow local journalists James Pearce and Melissa Reddy both claim a deal is more likely for Werner.

Werner's release clause could be a deciding factor for Liverpool, with an outlay of around £50 million a much more likely possibility than the £100 million mooted for Sancho.

However, Liverpool will need to act fast in order to fend off interest from other European clubs and take advantage of the 23-year-old's release clause.

Both Sancho and Werner are in demand across Europe, and there will undoubtedly be plenty more reported in the coming weeks and months regarding their futures.

What may play in Liverpool's favour is their relationship with Leipzig's parent company Red Bull GmbH, who also own Salzburg.

Liverpool triggered a £48 million release clause for Naby Keita back in 2017, while they signed Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg in the January transfer window.
